Cast Urethane (Polyurethane) - RTV molding
RTV molding is an effective and inexpensive way to create multiple copies of a master prototype part when you need a spec-like material for multiple sets, in a short timeframe, for less than a traditional tool would cost.

Silicone molds are capable of reproducing remarkable detail, and because of the flexibility of silicone, draft angles, inserts, and undercuts are not as critical as in other molding processes.

Urethane casting materials are a two part liquid that when mixed will imitate most commercial grade plastics such as ABS, Polypropylene, Polycarbonate, etc. Urethanes are also used in many products where rubber-like qualities are required such as cushioned wheel treads, handle grips, over molded grips, etc.

The benefits of RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanized) molding are:

  • Functional prototypes with complex features
  • Fast delivery compared to injection molded prototypes
  • Relatively low cost compared to direct RP
  • Very low cost compared to injection mold tooling process
  • A wide range of material properties to choose from
  • Cast-in color that is blended to your specification
  • Accuracy that is on par with rapid prototypes
  • Zero Draft and/or small undercuts are not a problem
  • Shore A, Shore D, bio-compatible, flame-resistant, and UL rated, and clear materials are available
  • Delivery of parts usually in 2 weeks or less
