Rapid Prototyping using 3D systems Viper Si2 Stereolithography Apparatus ( SLA ), is a dynamic technology. The potential of stereolithoghrgraphy Technologies grows and broadens each year. Stereolithography has become a much used technology in so many industries. Examples are aerospace, armaments, automotive, consumer electronics, consumer products, toys, industrial equipment, medical equipment, surgical applications, dental applications. Also all types of plastic processing such as injection molding, blow molding, compression molding, thermoforming, and tool making. It is used in the jewelry and foundry industries as well. Stereolithography is an economical way to verify form, fit, and function as well as verify the aesthetics and ergonomics of your new product. The materials used in the process have improved dramatically over the past decade. Stereolithography resins have higher durability and replicate materials such as polypropylene (PP) and Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS). A 3D solid model is required to generate an SLA prototype. All 3D modeling software is capable of exporting a file known as an ".STL" file (which stands for stereolithography). The cost of stereolithography is based on several factors. The most important factors are: part height, resolution required, part volume, total part surface area, material required, and finish requested. In all cases when a part is built, there is a small structure attached to the bottom called the "supports". Their purpose is to raise the part off the platform and provide a "bridge" type structure that only touches the part by small points. This structure is removed after the part is completed. Stereolithography is an economical and effective way to shorten your time-to-market and reduce your overall product development costs by eliminating excess design cycles dealing with design and aesthetic issues.
